The most experienced level of Cal Ripken Baseball, recommended for 11 and 12 year old players. Cal Ripken Baseball is played under the Official Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this young age group. Pineville adheres to the Cal Ripken Baseball Majors 70 rules, featuring a 50' pitching distance and 70' base paths.
Majors Objectives:
- Adaptation to increased distances & faster pace of play.
- Game strategy is more prevalent than 'read and react'
- Hitters should be able to bring an 'approach' to each at-bat based on situational baseball.
- Pitchers should be able to consistently hit target and developing additional off-speed pitches.
Developmental Milestones (readiness for Middle School / High School / Legends):
- Able to adapt swing to place ball throughout field.
- Baseball IQ developed so that player can instincitvely react to quickly developing situations (i.e. take an extra base, bunt for a hit, etc.)
- Outfielders able to identify & throw out runners advancing to bases (throwing 'through' the cut-off)
